MATR joins the Great Canadian Hike

Calling all Manitoba trail runners!

This September, we are taking our weekly mileage and elevating it for a national cause. We’re inviting the entire community to join our team for The Great Canadian Hike (September 1–30) to help represent Manitoba and support the Trans Canada Trail—the world’s longest network of multi-use trails!

Why we need you!

Whether you’re joining us at Garbage Hill, putting in 5 km morning loops on an urban trail or logging 38 km long runs in the Whiteshell, every single kilometer you run this September counts.

From Sept. 1 to 30, our team is logging our distance to contribute to the nationwide collective goal of 100,000 km. Together, let’s be part of something GREAT — for our health, our communities, and the future of the Trail.

At-A-Glance

  • When: September 1 – September 30

  • What: Run, hike, or log trail miles anywhere across Manitoba and log your distance on our team portal.

  • The Goal: Build trail community, crush group mileage goals, raise funds to protect Canada’s trail network, and win national participant prizes.

  • Cost: Free to register - but please fundraise toward our goal!

MATR Community Goal

Let’s show the rest of Canada the power of Manitoba’s trail running community. Whether you're chasing personal bests or enjoying social weekend paces, every mile logged directly protects the trails we love to run.

We’re aiming to raise at least $2,500 for the TCT as a team AND log 1,000 km.

Help us tell the story of MATR’s Great Canadian Hike.

We need your stories from the trail this month to help us share the story about our journey. What inspired you to participate? What’s your favourite part of the TCT? Or tell us about one of your adventures this month.
