Single Track Sunday
When: 9:15 am at the trailhead, run by 9:30 am
Where: Lake Minnewasta, Morden
Join us for another Single Track Sunday of good friends, good company, and great trails. This month we’re teaming up with our friends at A-Town Runners to run the trail around Lake Minnewasta in Morden.
Washrooms are available in the day-use area and are typically open year-round.
We have a short(er)~6.3 km and long(er) ~12.6 km route option for you this month.
We’ll all start out together and head toward the western edge of the lake. At the western edge, runners wishing to tackle a prairie hill climb, there’s a 250 m uphill segment to challenge in both directions (purple). From here, the folks wishing to do the shorter loop (red) will double back to the start, taking the left-hand junction at the trail fork to follow the “high” route. We’re essentially running the small loop clockwise. Don’t worry, it’s also okay to do a pure out-and-back and follow exactly the same route we came on the way back.
The folks wishing to take on the 12ish km loop (green)will continue across the edge of the lake (this may involve getting wet feet!) before hitting the trail along the southern side. On the south side, the trail will run clockwise through the trail forks, hugging the trail closest to the water, on the way out, and the higher, forested forks on the way back to the western edge of the lake, where we started. The option to (repeat) the 250 m hill climb for those feeling spicy exists before we head back on the higher loop on the lake’s northern side, back to our start point.
We love stopping for ice cream at either Georges in Morden or Syl’s in Carmen on the way home.
Hot Tip: Have a change of clothes and shoes for after the run. And don’t be surprised if some of go for a dip in the lake at the end of the run!
NOTE: We’re all-weather people and run under all conditions. However, this event may be rescheduled if the road conditions make travelling unsafe on the day.
