Single Track Sunday
When: 9:15 am at the trailhead, run by 9:30 am
Where: Waa’say’Gaa’Boo (Tunnel Island) Trail, Kenora
Join us for another Single Track Sunday of good friends and good company on the magical trails of Tunnel Island in Kenora.
Note: This is a location change from our planned run in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. Although we anticipate some easing of travel restrictions in late June, uncertainty remains around trail access in provincial parks as the province continues to manage the effects of large-scale wildfires across the province. As a result, we’ve decided to move this run to minimize our impact on recovery efforts. We’ll look forward to taking you to Jessica and Cabin lake trails at a later date.
At Tunnel Island, we’ve picked an ~8km route for the day, which follows the perimeter of the island long the lake shore for the most part, including a lovely little swim spot for mid-run dips!
This is a self-supported run. Pack your own water/hydration and snacks for the trail and consider bringing a snack to share for the post-run parking lot snack party. For those who’d like to extend their social time, we’ll consider heading down to LOTW Brewery for a drink or meal after the parking lot snack party.
We encourage everyone to participate at their own pace. We'll have a MATR leader on the run, but you should feel free to run as fast or as slow on the route as you feel comfortable. Please be mindful of your own abilities and effort and adjust your run accordingly! Listen to the signals your body is giving you! We plan to be on trail for 2-3 hours.
We try to organize a carpool before each event to reduce the number of vehicles at trailheads and reduce our group emissions. If you have extra space in your car, or need a ride, please email us at info@matr.ca and we’ll try to connect folks. Expect about 2 hours of driving from Winnipeg plus any bathroom breaks you need on the way.
There are NO outhouses at the trailhead. Plan to make a stop a one of the gas stations along the way if you need to visit a toilet. There are gas stations in Prawda, Clearwater Bay and just as you enter Keewatin before you arrive at the trailhead.
Hot Tip: Have a change of clothes and shoes for the ride home. Bring your swimming gear and snacks, too!
NOTE: We’re all-weather people and run under all conditions. We’ll only cancel this run if weather conditions make it unsafe to travel or run on the day.
